Zoey Tempesta didn’t know what she was getting into when her mother signed her up for the inaugural Bay Area Girls Rock Camp.
“I thought it was going to be a band camp kind of thing — a little boring,” the 14-year-old said vocalist from Half Moon Bay.
That was before she started rocking the mic, fronting a new soul-rock-hip-hop band and writing material to perform at one of San Francisco’s best-known clubs.
“(The camp has) been awesome,” she said. “I thank my mom every day for signing me up.”
